Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital PGY1 Pharmacy Residency provides post-graduate pharmacists with supportive, one-on-one training to match each resident’s personal goals and interests. Residents receive the experience and mentoring needed to perform as competent, independent clinicians in tomorrow’s challenging healthcare environment. The PGY1 residency program offers a wide range of learning experiences.
Required Learning Experiences
- Orientation – 6 weeks
- Adult Internal Medicine – 6 weeks
- Emergency Medicine – 6 weeks
- Critical Care – 6 weeks
- Administration – 6 weeks
- Drug Policy Center (DPC) – longitudinal over 5 months
- Medication Safety – longitudinal over 5 months
- Teaching and Learning – longitudinal over 11 months
- Hospital Pharmacy Practice (Staffing) – longitudinal over 11 months
- Year Long Project – longitudinal over 12 months
- Clinical Forum (CE presentation) – longitudinal over 11 weeks
- PICS- longitudinal over 12 months
Elective Learning Experiences
Resident chooses 3 electives:
- Infectious Diseases – 6 weeks
- Cardiology – 6 weeks
- General Surgery – 6 weeks
- Medication Safety (Block) – 6 weeks
- Additional elective options may be under development
Additional Opportunities
- Participate in multidisciplinary team rounds
- Present a year-long project at a regional pharmacy conference
- Complete ACLS/BLS training and respond to emergency events
- Serve as a member of a site or system committee
- Contribute to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
