Didactics

  • We believe most learning occurs by seeing patients. So, we encourage you to read and discuss patients in daily teaching rounds on the Family Medicine Service. Our senior residents and faculty also present a “just-in-time” learning topic daily.
  • Additionally, we maintain a robust schedule of didactics for 4 hours every Wednesday on all topics important in Family Medicine, from Evidence-Based Core Lectures to Resident Support Group and everything in between. We have a team of faculty and residents who adjust lecture topics and structure to fulfill the learning needs and requirements of our residents. Didactics schedule is updated and posted in Medhub for easy access and planning.
  • We have a state-of-the-art Simulation Center at Lutheran General Hospital that we use routinely for practicing obstetrical and other procedural skills, reviewing cases and clinical scenarios, practicing life support skills and abnormal EKG readings.
  • We also believe that significant learning occurs by teaching. During your residency you will be given several opportunities to teach. These will include didactic presentations, precepting medical students at Nesset in your PGY2 and PGY3 years and presenting to nursing staff and community groups.
