Our educational home is Advocate Lutheran General Hospital - a 638-bed teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center located adjacent to Chicago on the northwest side. We have over 1,300 physicians on staff representing 84 specialties and subspecialties. Within this educational environment, we provide a close-knit and personal psychiatry training experience. We train just four residents per year, which produces a supportive and collegial culture between our residents and our faculty.

Our department offers a full continuum of mental health services at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital:

  • Adult Inpatient Psychiatry (36 beds)
  • Adult PHP
  • Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry (13 beds)
  • Child and Adolescent PHP
  • Robust Consultation/Liaison service
  • Robust ECT experience
  • Outpatient Behavioral Health Clinic

We also have a Memory Center, Sleep Disorders Center, and the Russell Research Institute. 95% of our residents’ training occurs on our hospital campus.

  • 30 % of our residents pursue fellowships after graduation, primarily in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Many of our alumni choose to practice locally, and several have chosen to pursue academic careers.

Please explore our website. We hope that as you learn more about our residency, you will become as excited about the psychiatry training experience as we are.

Sincerely,

Marla Hartzen
