Psychiatric services

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital (ALGH) provides a full continuum of psychiatric services. Residents learn their clinical skills by participating in patient care in each of these settings:

INPATIENT SERVICE UNITS

Adult Psychiatry
Our 36-bed locked General Adult Psychiatry unit is supported by both teaching and community psychiatrists. A broad range of cases are seen, and focus is on diagnostic assessment, patient stabilization, and treatment initiation.

Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
Our 13-bed unit locked C&A unit provides comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and treatment to younger patients from kindergarten through high school. Family involvement is integral to the care provided.

Addiction Treatment Services
Various hospital units provide treatment to substance dependent patients admitted to ALGH. Patients are medically overseen as they are being detoxed from alcohol and other drugs. Treatment plans and recommendations are developed according to individual needs.

PARTIAL HOSPITAL SERVICES

Adult Partial Hospitalization Program
The Adult Partial Hospital program is an intensive, structured step-down and/or alternative to inpatient treatment. The program helps patients adjust to and cope with their psychiatric illness, deal with crises and transition back to community living and work activities.

Child & Adolescent Day Treatment Program
The Child/Adolescent Day Treatment Program is designed to evaluate and treat symptoms of school age children with severe emotional, behavioral, or social problems who can be maintained safely within the home during evenings and weekends. The child/adolescent is assisted in integrating more successfully into their family, school and community.

OUTPATIENT SERVICES

Advocate Medical Group Teaching Practice
Our faculty and resident practice, located in the hospital’s adjacent professional building, draws a broad range of patients from the near northwest suburbs and the northwest portions of Chicago.

Psychology/Neuropsychology Laboratory
The Neuropsychology Laboratory assesses a wide range of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. The Cognitive Rehabilitation Program provides inpatient and outpatient services to rehabilitation patients of Lutheran General Hospital, with specialized programs in Traumatic Brain Injury. Psychologists evaluate cognitive and behavioral changes such as memory loss, reduced attention span, intellectual decline, and personality change. Selected tests are administered to help diagnose problems, aid rehabilitation plans, and educate patients. The primary sources of referrals are Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry, and General Medicine.

Advocate Memory Center
The Memory Center provides outpatient assessment and treatment for older adults with cognitive decline. Collaborative, lifelong learning in this area is supported with a weekly Dementia Conference overseen by the Memory Center leadership.

Sleep Disorder Clinic
The Sleep Disorder Center provides outpatient assessment and treatment of various conditions including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, and sleep-related limb movement disorders.
