Scholarship is essential to fellowship training. Recognizing the diverse range of scholarly activities, fellows have dedicated training and mentorship opportunities to develop scholarship skills. Both Lutheran General Hospital and Christ Medical Center have dedicated staff available to assist with research projects involving fellows.
Clinical Research
Research is an integral part of the Pediatric Hospitalist Medicine fellowship program. All fellows will have dedicated research time to complete a project of their choice based on their personal interests within PHM. Each fellow will work under the guidance of a faculty research mentor and the supervision of the Scholarship Oversight Committee to complete their research over the span of the two-year fellowship. The Division of Academic Affairs offers a Graduate Medical Education Research Series that covers an extensive range of topics such as research methodology and biostatistics.
Quality Improvement
In addition to an individualized research project, all fellows will also complete a QI project. Systems improvement plays an important role in Pediatric Hospital Medicine. Fellows will receive training in systems improvement methodology from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement curriculum and a dedicated PHM Fellows QI curriculum. Fellows will have ample time to complete their individualized projects, as approximately one third of the two-year curriculum will be dedicated systems and scholarship blocks.
