Our residency program understands the importance of facilitating a learning and working environment that supports resident/fellow and faculty well-being. Physician wellbeing is affected by factors at the Individual, Residency, and System levels and below are just some of the approaches we take to promote wellness.
Individual
Regular check-ins with chiefs and program leadership. Our leadership encourages an “open door policy” to foster an environment of transparency, trust, and communication.
- Quarterly sessions with Chaplains focused on emotional wellness and team bonding.
- Wellness Committee led by the residents to foster social, emotional, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and occupational wellness.
- Meetings with Employee Assistance Program as needed
Residency
- Five self-care half days are scheduled throughout the year. Furthermore, the program developed a holiday block system to allow residents to have additional days off during the month of December.
- Residents are paired up with a faculty mentor as well as a senior resident with similar life/career goals.
- Affinity groups allow residents to interact with colleagues and faculty who have similar interests to connect, share, and network together. Currently, we have affinity groups for Women, Men, Parents, LGBTQ+, and URiM, who meet regularly and have scheduled social events.
- The program hosts many social outings, including monthly end of block socials, nurse/resident events, holiday parties, among other events.
- Protected time during didactics to allow residents to fully focus on learning opportunities
- Wellness Committee led by the residents to foster social, emotional, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and occupational wellness. The committee hosts events such as Wellness Week and Wellness Challenges.
