Stipends & Allowances

  • Chief resident stipend: $4,000 per program.
  • Education stipend allowance: $1,000.00 (As of July 1st, 2023)
  • On-call meal allowance of $1,000 per academic year.

Paid Time Off (PTO)

  • Residents and fellows receive a total of 20 vacation days/year and 3 days for unplanned absences/year. Unused days do not accumulate from year to year.

  • Fatigued Trainee - Safe Ride Home Transportation Program
  • Reimbursement of ABA Basic ($875.00) if the resident passes on their 1st attempt and registers early.
  • Provides transportation expenses for required off-site rotations – Rush, Lurie’s, and Christ.

Insurance

  • A resident or fellow may select any medical, dental and vision health care insurance plans offered by the Advocate Aurora Health Care System. Coverage becomes effective from the first day of training.
  • Disability and life insurance benefits.
  • Residents and fellows are covered by the system’s professional malpractice liability insurance for all required training related to hospital activities.

AAH Library: Residents have access to electronic versions of most anesthesia texts including Miller’s Basics of Anesthesia, Miller’s Anesthesia, Barash’s Clinical Anesthesia, and Stoelting’s Anesthesia and Co-Existing Diseases.

TrueLearn: Prepare with anesthesia board questions specifically crafted by board-certified anesthesiologists to mirror those tested on ABA anesthesia exams.

Anesthesia Toolbox: Residents have access to a collaborative project of over 100 academic programs to develop and share educational resources for anesthesia education. Multi-media peer-reviewed content, Wiki cases, and rotation curricula are just some examples Anesthesia Toolbox has to offer.

AccessAnesthesia: The Advocate Health – Midwest Library is pleased to provide AccessAnesthesiology, an online resource that helps residents in strengthening their skills with instant access to procedural videos, self-assessment, and leading anesthesiology textbooks that will establish a solid base for learning and enables practicing anesthesiologists to reinforce their medical knowledge for recertification. Core resources found here include:
