Applicants with one of the following qualifications are eligible for appointment to the department’s program:
- Graduates of medical schools in the U.S. and Canada accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
- Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the U.S. accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
- Graduates of medical schools outside of the U.S. and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications who:
- Have a valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
- Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the U.S. licensing jurisdiction
- Graduated from medical schools outside the U.S. who have completed a Fifth Pathway program provided by an LCME-accredited medical school.
An Anesthesiology Residency program applicant must meet the following qualifications to be eligible for appointment to the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center Anesthesiology Residency Program:
- We only accept applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
- Provide CV
- Provide Personal Statement
- Provide Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)/Dean’s Evaluation Letter
- Provide 3 letters of recommendation
- One letter must be from an anesthesiologist. We prefer, but do not require, that letters from anesthesiologists are written using a standardized letter format.
- Provide Official Graduate transcript & Official Medical School transcript
- Official test transcripts from USMLE, COMLEX, NBOME, FMGEMS FLEX or NBME
- USMLE score above 225 for Step 1 (Must pass first attempt)
- As of January 26th, 2022, USLME Step 1 score reporting is reported as pass/fail therefore we are looking for “Must pass first attempt”.
- USLME score above 235 for Step 2 (Must pass first attempt)
- COMLEX score equivalent to the USLME Scores (Must pass first attempt)
- International medical Graduates must obtain ECFMG certification before the issuance of a training license
- Have passed Step 1 and Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE ™) and/or an acceptable combination of components of the former Foreign Medical Graduate Examination in the Medical Sciences (FMGEMS), the National Board of Medical Examiners ® (NBME®) Part Sequence, or the Visa Qualifying Examination (VQE)
- Graduation from Medical School within 3 years of application unless actively involved in clinical practice of Anesthesiology.
- For CA-1/PGY-2 applicants, complete one year of US clinical experience is required and completed their USLME Step 3 exam. We prefer candidate who have complete 2 ICU rotations and one Emergency Medicine rotation.
- We only offer J-1 visas so other statuses will not be considered for reviewal.
Our application and supporting documentation are accepted until October 31st.
The interview dates are filled on a first-response-first-confirmed basis. Electronic invitations are transmitted via ERAS for candidate interviews in November and December.
Our residents are selected through the National Residency Match Program (NRMP). Criteria for including applicants on the Rank Order List for the Match are:
1. Completed Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
2. And by invitation only, personal interview with the department
