The benign gynecology service at Illinois Masonic provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient evaluation and management for all gynecologic conditions. Residents spend 3 months as an intern and 4 months each additional year on the gynecology rotation.
The inpatient responsibilities of the gynecology team include gynecologic surgeries and postoperative care as well as gynecologic consultative services. In the operating room, residents receive comprehensive training in the full scope of gynecologic surgery. Highly-qualified physicians with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds provide a positive learning environment.
Additionally, Illinois Masonic is fully dedicated to the minimally invasive approach to gynecologic care. The institution possesses the latest surgical operative equipment as well as a comprehensive operative skills laboratory. More importantly, the faculty at Illinois Masonic possesses a vast experience in minimally invasive technique, including one of the most extensive repertoires in robotic gynecologic surgery. The combination of these factors allow great resident experience, including laparoscopic hysterectomies and myomectomies.
Outpatient gynecological services are now exclusively provided in the newly remodeled Wilton Medical Office Center. Within this setting, the residents manage their own panel of patients in the continuity clinic. This ambulatory setting provides the full scope of comprehensive gynecologic care for their patients, including diagnostic procedures, in-office expert gynecologic ultrasound, surgical counseling and scheduling as well as post operative care. There is also a resident specialty clinic devoted exclusively to the management of first trimesterpregnancy loss, ectopic gestations and other abnormal pregnancies. Additionally, our federally-sponsored family planning clinic is dedicated to contraceptive education, including IUD placement and tubal ligation counseling.
