Mission statement

The goal of the Division of Research and Scholarship Advancement is to provide residents with training and skill sets to appraise clinically relevant literature and incorporate research into clinical practice. The program embraces the general core competences: medical knowledge, patient care, communication skills, practice-based learning, professionalism, and system based practice as the foundation for academic and clinical success. Each resident will have the opportunity to participate in a research elective and conduct an original research project.

The research elective combines independent study with supervised, practical experience. In addition to working on an independent research project, all participants must complete the required readings, satisfactorily pass a quiz and complete the Human Research Subjects tutorial by the end of the month. Each resident must choose a faculty advisor to guide them in their project selection, monitor progress, ensure completion of required elements, and plan for presentation of results
