Thank you for your interest in the Gastroenterology Fellowship at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. I believe that we offer one of the best clinical gastroenterology training experiences anywhere. Fellows are exposed to all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology, taught by over twenty experienced professionals. Our faculty are engaged clinician educators, dedicated to helping our trainees achieve their maximum potential in a supportive environment. Our fellows leave the program as confident clinicians and skilled endoscopists, well prepared for practice or advanced training.

As a recent graduate of this fellowship program, I am now honored to serve as the associate program director. You will be joining an outstanding training program that offers a supportive, collegial environment to learn the breadth of gastroenterology/hepatology as you develop your own areas of interest. Fellows have their hands on the scope from day one, and the volume and variety of procedure experiences prepare graduates to enter practice with confidence. Our faculty are eager to provide mentorship in career development, including pursuing advanced fellowships and positions within GME. The relationships you build during your time here will last for life.

As a regional referral center for Advocate Health Care, a nationally recognized multi-hospital system, Lutheran General Hospital offers comprehensive gastroenterologic services including advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, wide ranging surgical capabilities, including robotic hepatobiliary, pancreatic and colorectal surgical services, and state of the art diagnostic and therapeutic imaging capabilities. GI fellows at LGH receive excellent endoscopic procedural training, including the opportunity to have hands on experience with therapeutic ERCP. Fellows work in an office, not clinic based, continuity-focused outpatient setting and manage a broad range of outpatient conditions. As part of this training, they are exposed to traditional and functional approaches to managing gastrointestinal disease. The GI Fellowship program at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital is unique in many ways. A particular area that is one of our greatest strengths is the endoscopic experience fellows receive during their fellowship. Fellows receive mentorship from a variety of practicing gastroenterologists ranging from general endoscopy to advanced therapeutics, so that differing styles of teaching is experienced. Depending on the fellow’s interest, their clinical and endoscopic paths can be tailored to suit their career goals so that our fellows are able to perform not only EGDs and Colonoscopies, but also ERCP as well as an introduction to EUS. Every fellow that I have worked with over the past 15 years at Lutheran General Hospital has received superb endoscopic training and has been more than ready to independently and safely perform GI procedures by the time they graduate.
