Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is a partial cardiopulmonary bypass procedure that temporarily replaces the function of a failing heart, lungs, or both, and can be used for extended periods in the intensive care unit. ECMO has saved multiple lives at Advocate Condell – one of only a few hospitals in the region certified to perform ECMO procedures.
