Types of treatment for cervical cancer

In its early stages, cervical cancer is highly treatable. Cervical cancer treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy.

Radiation therapy directs high-energy rays (similar to X-rays) at cancerous areas of the body, while chemotherapy kills cancer cells or slows their growth using medication.

When it comes to surgical treatment for cervical cancer, our surgeons often use incision-free techniques that reduce recovery time and completely remove cervical cancer cells and the surrounding tissue. The techniques can include:

  • Cryosurgery: Uses very cold liquid nitrogen to freeze and destroy cancer cells
  • Laser surgery: Uses powerful, targeted light beams to destroy cancer cells.
  • Surgery: May not be advised for late-stage cervical cancer. Your team will recommend a treatment plan based on the cancer stage, your overall health and other factors.
