Programs are based on a standard of 400 hours of supervised ministry. They follow two formats with variations of each. In each format, approximately one-half of the student's time will be spent in direct on-site clinical service. The other half is divided among supervision, didactic seminars and other educational experiences. Another program offered is our year-long residency program. Pastoral Internship: An introduction to supervised clinical pastoral practice with people in crisis. Chaplain interns function as integral members of treatment teams, assisting patients and family members to draw on the meaning and benefits of their faith and spiritual values in the midst of health crises. Skills in pastoral care are developed and approaches to understanding human relationships and spiritual needs are explored. At most sites, intensive 11-12 week programs are offered in the summer. At Advocate Lutheran General, intensive programs are offered quarterly, year-round.
