Kendall Smith Healthcare Exploration Scholarship

Kendall Smith Healthcare Exploration Scholarships are awarded each summer to current high school juniors and seniors who are interested in careers in health care. Selected students receive a stipend and spend 6 weeks during the summer in a hospital environment immersed in one hospital area of their choice. As part of the program, students prepare a presentation about their hospital experience that they share in front of staff and guests.

Potential candidates are accepted from among residents of the following towns: Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Harwood Heights, Morton Grove, Mount Prospect, Niles, Norridge, Palatine, Park Ridge, Prospect Heights, Rolling Meadows, Skokie and Wheeling.

We regret to inform you that this program has been cancelled and will not be offered this summer. Please check back with us in February 2024.

Sponsorship

The scholarship program is sponsored by the Service League at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, which includes members of Volunteer Services, the Flower Shop and the Board of Directors. Through volunteerism and philanthropic contributions, the Service League supports the mission, values and philosophies of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

The Kendall Smith Healthcare Exploration Scholarship was established to honor the memory of a young, vibrant volunteer whose dream was to become a social worker for chronically ill children and adolescents. Unfortunately, she lost her life to cystic fibrosis at the age of 19, so she was not able to fulfill her lifelong ambition.
