Cancers we treat

The experts at Advocate Christ Medical Center specialize in the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of a full range of cancers, from the common to the complex:

Advocate Cancer Institute is among the select few in the country with a dedicated cardio-oncology program, providing care for those at risk for cardiovascular disease due to the effects of certain cancer treatments. Our specialists help prevent or minimize heart damage through education, ongoing monitoring and advanced cardiac care.

We're also one of the only medical centers serving the southwest suburbs to feature a reconstructive urologist for women to treat any effects from cancer treatment.

Nationally recognized care

At Advocate Cancer Institute, you and your family can count on the highest standards of patient-centered care, at a location other hospitals regularly refer to for complex cases and groundbreaking therapies.

We have received three-year accreditation by the Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons, and named a cancer teaching hospital by the same organization.

Our nursing program has earned designation as a Magnet hospital, the highest honor given by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Most of our nurses are certified by the Oncology Nursing Society to provide a deeper level of care.

And we’ve received full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) for providing the best possible care and treatments to our breast cancer patients.

Prevention & early detection

Your best defense against cancer is to prevent it from occurring or catching it in its earliest stages, when it’s highly treatable. We offer the latest cancer screenings, including all-digital and 3D mammography, a quick and painless lung scan, colonoscopy and more for your peace of mind and accurate results.

Cancer genetic risk assessment

If you have a family history of cancer, our cancer genetics program offers testing and risk assessments to address any concerns. Specialized pathology testing can identify specific genes related to breast, colon, ovarian and other cancers with a hereditary link. Our board-certified genetic counselors will walk through the results with you, discuss next steps and refer you to a specialist, if needed.

Advanced diagnostics & treatments

Minimally invasive robotic surgery: The highly sophisticated da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System allows our surgeons to operate with just a few small incisions, plus unmatched precision and control. Common robotic procedures we perform include cystectomy (bladder cancer surgery), prostatectomy (prostate cancer surgery) and partial nephrectomy (kidney cancer surgery) – all offering less pain, shorter hospital stays and quicker return to normal activities.

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS): An advanced, incision-free procedure, endoscopic ultrasound creates highly detailed images of the digestive tract to detect and stage tumors too small to be seen by CT or MRI scans. It can also be used to help relieve painful symptoms of cancer.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS): A minimally invasive technique where a tiny camera is inserted into the chest to guide the surgeon in removing lung cancer tumors. Because VATS only uses a few small incisions, patients often experience less pain, fewer complications and faster recovery.

Ileal Neobladder Reconstruction: Helps restore normal urinary function for patients following bladder cancer surgery.

Our Cancer Institute also provides the latest chemotherapy options, plus advanced radiation therapies to target tumors with extreme precision while preserving healthy tissue.
