Steps to take before your baby's arrival

We understand that the birth of a new baby is a busy and exciting time. That's why we want to make sure you're prepared. Here's a checklist of important steps to take before your baby's arrival. 

1. Update or sign up for LiveWell

Our LiveWell app and website is the best place to store all important medical and insurance details for your family. You can even upload insurance cards, saving you time and paperwork when you check in for your delivery. Create or update your LiveWell account.

2. Complete a birth certificate worksheet

If your birthing center allows it, make sure to complete a birth certificate worksheet before your big day. Ask your doctor for the form and any additional information. 

3. Choose a pediatrician

When you arrive to deliver your baby, you may be asked for the name of your pediatrician or family practice doctor. Bring the full name in written form. We recommend choosing a doctor at least a month before your due date. Call 800-3-ADVOCATE or search our online doctor directory to find one near you.

4. Take a class

We offer childbirth education, breastfeeding, parenting, CPR and children's health classes to help you before and after you deliver your baby. View available classes near you.

5. Arrange backup childcare for older children

We don’t encourage any children to be present during your labor and delivery. But if kids must be there, they must be supervised by an adult – someone other than you or your support person.
