Patient and Family Advisory Council

Will you join us in transforming healthcare? We are looking for volunteer patient/family partners to serve on the Patient and Family Advisory Council (PFAC) at Advocate Sherman Hospital.

What does a patient/family partner do?

  • Provide fresh insights on what it’s like to receive services at Advocate Sherman Hospital.
  • Share diverse ideas and provide constructive feedback that supports the principles of patient and family-centered care.
  • Represent the patient/family perspective while working together with healthcare professionals and hospital staff.

What is the time commitment?

This is a volunteer position. The PFAC meets monthly. If you serve on a hospital committee or workgroup, there may be additional monthly meetings. Your level of involvement will dictate the time required.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal patient/family partner will:

  • Have the ability to share insights about their experiences in productive ways.
  • Respect the work done at Advocate Sherman Hospital and recognize opportunities to collaborate for improvement.
  • Have experience serving on a team, either in the workplace or in a volunteer or nonprofit setting.
  • Represent the community that we serve.

How can I join PFAC?

Why should you join PFAC?

Read what these other volunteers had to say:

“I’ve been on boards and committees for many years, and sometimes it feels like people meet and never really have a purpose or the ability to change anything. This team has a well-defined purpose, and its actions support that purpose well. We are making a real difference for patients because of the quality of the people on our team, and the professionalism and commitment of everyone at Sherman.”
Rose Diaz, Patient/Family Partner

“PFAC is one of the most direct ways to improve healthcare in our community. Real patients and their families are affected by our work every day. The team at Sherman is a pleasure to work with, and I enjoy the opportunity to share the patient perspective, in real-time, on projects that will impact everyone who walks through the hospital doors.”
Joy Symonds, Patient/Family Partner
