Advocate Trinity Hospital is proud to be the first hospital in Chicago – and now one of only five – to be designated Baby-Friendly, a worldwide breastfeeding quality improvement project created by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The designation recognizes the highest level of breastfeeding support a hospital can offer to moms and babies. Why is breastfeeding important?
Providing infants with human milk gives them the most complete nutrition possible. Scientific studies have shown that breastfed children have far fewer and less serious illnesses – including a reduced risk of SIDS, childhood cancers and diabetes – than those who never received breast milk.
