Spiritual care

Our professionally trained chaplains are a vital part of holistic care. Our chaplains can:

  • Provide spiritual and pastoral care for you, your family members and your friends, especially during times of crisis, grief or loss
  • Contact your own clergy, congregation, synagogue, mosque or faith community, with your consent, and make arrangements for your religious and spiritual needs
  • Provide information about advance directives
  • Discuss ethical decision-making and health care issues

Our chaplains are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our chapel is open to people of all faiths 24 hours a day, seven days a week for prayer and meditation.

Contact a chaplain by calling 773-296-5005, or asking your nurse for assistance.

Questions or concerns

If your hospital stay or care has not met your expectations, please ask to speak to the unit manager. If you have a concern or comment, you can also contact our Patient Relations department at 773-296-8230.

Tips for a smooth hospital stay

There are several steps you can take to help your hospital stay go smoothly:

  • If you have financial or health care questions, please inform us at the time of admission so a case manager or social worker can address your concerns.
  • When you arrive on the patient care unit, please provide your nurse or case manager with daytime and evening contact information for your support person and transportation plans for your discharge day. On that day, you should be prepared to leave the hospital within about one hour of when your doctor discharges you.
  • If you do not have clothing in the hospital, we ask that you have a family member or friend bring clothing for you.
  • Be sure to have your keys with you or ensure that someone will be present to receive you when return home when you are discharged.
  • Please let your nurse know if you have placed your valuables with security, so they can be returned to you when you are discharged.
  • Plan to get your prescriptions filled at a pharmacy near your home. Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center does not have an outpatient pharmacy.
