At our birthing center expectant mothers can look forward to a multi-disciplinary team of professionals assisting throughout their labor and delivery process in a welcoming, private environment. Before your delivery

• Prenatal classes such as prepared childbirth, baby basics and breastfeeding. Register for one now.

During your stay

• Private birthing suites that feature a bathroom and shower and a dedicated infant-care area equipped with state-of-the-art medical technology. Other amenities include TV and Wi-Fi.
• Anesthesiologists  available 24 hours a day to provide labor epidurals.
• High-tech cesarean section suites with advanced medical technology and the ability to accommodate multiple births.
• Private post-delivery suites that feature a bathroom and shower, a TV, Wi-Fi and an area for visitors. We offer open visiting hours for family and friends over 12 years of age and sibling visits at hours convenient for you.
• Level III perinatal services in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), providing the highest level of care designated by the state of Illinois for premature and critically ill infants.
• Board-certified lactation consultants who are registered nurses based at the hospital and offer individualized breastfeeding guidance bedside during baby’s crucial first days.
• Infant security system for peace of mind.

Upon discharge

• Lactation consultants who are available for private consultations on an outpatient basis. The hospital also offers breast pumps for sale and rent and breastfeeding accessories as well.
• Examination of your newborn by your pediatrician or one of the on-call pediatricians.

We work with women throughout pregnancy and beyond to make sure their breastfeeding experience is successful.

Breastfeeding resources

Before delivery: We offer prenatal breastfeeding classes on a regular basis to help you prepare.

During your stay: Our lactation consultants will help you get started with breastfeeding and answer any questions you may have once your baby is born .

Donor milk program

When a mother is unable to provide her own breast milk, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital offers the option of pasteurized human milk for both premature and full-term infants. The milk is provided by nursing moms who have excess milk they agree to donate to babies in need. These women must undergo rigorous medical tests and pass strict lifestyle criteria before their milk is accepted. Upon donation, the milk is pasteurized to destroy viruses and bacteria and tested to ensure safety.

Advanced services for complex issues

Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital's level III designation for obstetric, perinatal and neonatal services allows us to care for high-risk mothers and critically ill or premature babies. Our level III services — the highest level of care designated by the state of Illinois — also include a special care team of perinatologists, neonatologists, critical care nurses and, when necessary, pediatric subspecialists who work together with the obstetricians or pediatrician to care for mom and baby.

Maternal-fetal diagnostic center

Our Maternal-Fetal Diagnostic Center focuses on caring for women who are facing risky pregnancies. It's made up of a specialized care team of dedicated physicians, nurses, obstetrical sonographers and counselors who are trained at identifying and addressing issues high-risk women may experience. Highest-level NICU

Choosing a hospital with a NICU for your delivery is important in case any issues arise during your pregnancy or after labor. As a highest-level III perinatal center, we're specially equipped to stabilize and provide intense nursing care for premature or critically ill infants in our NICU, 24 hours a day. Our NICU staff also has experience you can trust, treating more than 275 infants annually.

New mom's experience

Our level III NICU was one of the reasons Sara Day chose us to deliver her baby. That decision meant her newborn got the care he needed when he was born premature and with a congenital heart defect.

We offer a variety of classes, resources and videos that can be helpful to you and your family during your pregnancy and your baby's first months.
