What sets us apart:
The experts at Advocate Good Samaritan specialize in the prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment of a full range of cancers, from the common to the complex:
Advocate Good Samaritan uses the most current cancer screenings and diagnostic technology to detect tumors early and accurately and put you on the fast track to treatment. Specialties include:
If you have a family history of cancer, we offer an on-site cancer genetics program, including genetic testing and cancer risk assessments to address any concerns. Specialized pathology testing can identify specific genes related to breast, colon, ovarian and other cancers with a hereditary link. Our board-certified genetic counselors will walk through the results with you, discuss next steps and refer you to a specialist, if needed.
Beyond the confidence of knowing you’re being cared for by a premier team of experts, you have access to full range of state-of-the-art treatments options.
For various types of cancer and tumors in certain locations, surgery is the optimal treatment. Our surgeons are trained in some of the most minimally invasive technology available, including the da Vinci® Robotic Surgical System. This highly sophisticated system allows our surgeons to operate with just a few tiny incisions, plus enhanced vision, precision and control.
Common robotic procedures we perform include hysterectomy to treat endometrial and ovarian cancer, as well as prostatectomy to remove prostate cancer.
More than 50 percent of all cancer patients will require radiation therapy during their treatment programs. Advocate Good Samaritan offers the newest and most effective therapies available, including Varian True Beam™. This system uses real-time tumor tracking to deliver more powerful and precise radiation, while sparing healthy tissue.
We offer the latest chemotherapy options and administration methods, including chemo-embolization, which delivers treatment straight to a tumor using microcatheters via arteries that supply blood to the tumor. Typically used to treat cancer of the liver, chemo-embolization can lead to fewer side effects.
It’s all delivered in our new Chemotherapy Infusion Suite, featuring 10 bays and two private rooms to maximize your comfort, plus specially trained chemotherapy nurses to meet your needs.
The newly remodeled, nationally accredited Breast Center at Advocate Good Samaritan makes it easy to take charge of your breast health:
3D mammograms: Also called tomosynthesis, this advanced breast cancer screening tool captures multiple images in less time while giving your doctor a more in-depth view of the breast tissue. It also helps distinguish harmless abnormalities from real tumors – leading to less stress and fewer callbacks.
Same-day mammograms, same-day results: With your busy life, it’s not always easy to make your health a priority. That’s why we can often see you the same day you schedule your appointment. We also provide same-day results to reduce wait anxiety or quickly order any follow-up tests, if needed. Schedule your mammogram today.
Better detection for dense breast tissue: We offer automated breast ultrasound (ABUS), which improves cancer detection by up to 30 percent for women with dense breast tissue when used in conjunction with a screening mammogram.
Stereotactic breast biopsy: Stereotactic biopsy uses a special computerized machine to pinpoint the any suspicious areas following a mammography. The procedure removes a small tissue sample through a hollow needle passed through the skin, which your pathologist will assess to determine if the area is benign or cancerous. We also offer advanced breast MRI, sentinel lymph node biopsy, ultrasound core biopsy and more to confirm a diagnosis.
Breast health navigator: We understand that a breast concern can be a time of uncertainty and anxiety. At Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, our certified breast health navigators help ease any extra burden on you by helping coordinate all care, connecting you to valuable resources and providing emotional support every step of the way.
