Convenience services at Advocate Sherman Hospital

Being in the hospital is never easy, whether you are a patient, a family member or a visitor. To make your stay more comfortable, we offer a number of accommodations and services for patients and families. We hope these help make your stay more pleasant.

Advocate Sherman Hospital Café

The Advocate Sherman Hospital Café is open daily 6:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday through Friday. When weather permits, we offer dining on our outdoor patio with beautiful views of our 15-acre geothermal lake. Our food-court-style café provides a variety of meal choices, cooked to order in a bright, airy atmosphere.

The Perk coffee shop

The Perk coffee shop is located on the first floor of the hospital within the Inspire Boutique Gift Shop. The coffee shop is open 6:30 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The coffee shop features sandwiches, soups and a variety of menu options for hot or cold breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Gift shop

At Advocate Sherman Hospital, the Inspire Boutique Gift Shop is located on the first floor. It carries a wide range of gift items, clothing, jewelry, greeting cards, fresh flowers and snacks.

The gift shop is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It’s closed Saturday and Sunday.

If you are unable to go to the gift shop, but would like to arrange a purchase, please call 224-783-8142. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

Flowers

For your convenience, the Advocate Sherman Hospital Gift Shop sells fresh flowers and balloons, which our volunteers deliver daily. Please note flowers are not allowed on the oncology floor. Call 224-783-8142 to order flowers or balloons for a patient.

ATM & vending services

  • A Chase automatic teller machine is located in the atrium next to the Inspire Boutique Gift Shop.
  • Vending services are available in the emergency department and in the café dining area. In the café, vending machines are at the base of the visitor elevators.

Telephones

There is a telephone in each patient room. To call departments within the hospital, use the four-digit extension number. A telephone directory is included in the "Guide to Patient Services" in each room. If there is a number you cannot locate, or you need further assistance, please dial "0".

All patient rooms are direct dial. The prefix is 224-783, followed by the floor number and the last three digits of the patient room number. For example, floor 5, room 1103 would be 224-783-5103; floor 2, room 1203 would be 224-783-2203.

You may also contact a patient room by calling the main hospital line, 847-742-9800. You’ll be prompted to dial "0," then the patient room extension. Again, the extension is the floor number and the last three digits of the patient room number. For example, the extension for floor 5, room 1103 is Ext. 5103.

To call outside the hospital, dial 9 and the phone number. To place a call to Chicago or the suburbs, dial 9 + 1 then the area code and the phone number. For calls outside the Chicago area, you must use a calling card or call collect charged to a home telephone. To access this service, please dial 77 + 1, then the area code and number. When you hear the tone, enter your calling card number. If you are not using a calling card, please wait for the operator to assist you.
