National recognition & accreditations

U.S. News & World Report

In the 2018-2019 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals issue, Advocate Christ Medical Center tied for fourth overall Best Hospital in the state of Illinois and in the Chicago Metro Area.

Physicians and staff were cited as being high performers in seven specialties: cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics and pulmonology. 

In addition, physicians and staff were ranked high performers in the following common adult procedures: heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.

Becker’s Hospital Review

2017-2018 lists:

  • 100 Great Hospitals in America. Hospitals included on the list are recognized nationally for excellence in clinical care, patient outcomes, and staff and physician satisfaction.
  • 100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Heart programs. Hospitals named on this list are national leaders in cardiovascular healthcare. Inclusion is based on recognition for clinical excellence for certain procedures, such as heart bypass and valve surgeries, and treatment of heart failure and heart attack patients. In addition, they also support heart education and disease prevention efforts.
  • Advocate Christ Medical Center is one of only eight hospitals nationwide, and the only Chicago-area hospital, cited for best heart-transplant patient outcomes, according to data collected by the SRTR (Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients) as reported by Becker’s Hospital Review. (2017)

American Heart Association & American Stroke Association

  • Recipient of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke GOLD PLUS Quality Achievement Award and a recipient of the AHA/ASA’s Target: Stroke™ Elite Honor Roll Award for three consecutive years. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.
  • Recipient of the 2017 Mission: Lifeline® Receiving Center GOLD Recognition Award by the American Heart Association.
    Receiving hospitals earn Gold recognition for achieving 85% or higher composite adherence to all Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center quality achievement indicators for consecutive 24-month intervals and 75% or higher compliance on all Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center quality measures to improve the quality of care for STEMi patients. A STEMI is a full-blown heart attack caused by complete blockage of a heart artery.

Magnet status

  • Magnet status is an award given by the American Nurses’ Credentialing Center (ANCC), an affiliate of the American Nurses Association, to hospitals that satisfy a set of criteria designed to measure the strength and quality of their nursing. Advocate Christ Medical Center has received this four-year designation four consecutive times.

Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • Designated a Blue Distinction® Center+ for cardiac care and spine surgery by Blue Cross Blue Shield. Blue Distinction® Centers+ are hospitals recognized for their expertise and efficiency in delivering specialty care.

Accreditations & certifications

DNV GL

DNV GL is an international certification body and classification society.

  • Advocate Christ Medical Center is fully accredited by DNV GL Healthcare USA
  • For the second consecutive three-year period received DNV recertification as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, the highest level now awarded. Christ Medical Center meets DNV GL Healthcare’s rigorous standards to treat the most complex stroke cases.
  • First VAD (Ventricular Assist Device) Center in the country to receive DNV GL disease-specific certification. The medical center serves as one of the leading centers nationally for the implantation of left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) to support patients with failing hearts.

Commission on Cancer (CoC)

  • The CoC of the American College of Surgeons (AcoS) has granted a three-year accreditation to the cancer program at Advocate Christ Medical Center. To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive multidisciplinary patient-centered care with a team of surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists and other cancer specialists. National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)

  • Granted three-year full accreditation designation by the NAPBC, a program of the American College of Surgeons. Accreditation by the NAPBC is only given to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest level of quality breast care and that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

American College of Radiology

  • The MRI Department achieved American College of Radiology Accreditation for all six MRI Units at Advocate Christ Medical Center. The Gold Seal of Accreditation means any prescribed imaging test will be done at a facility that has met the highest level of imaging quality and radiation safety. And, the facility and its personnel have gone through a comprehensive review to earn accreditation status by the ACR.

American Association of Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR)

  • Recertified by the AACVPR for the Pulmonary Rehab program at the medical center and the Cardiac Rehab program at High Tech Medical Park in Palos Heights. Certification is an affirmation that cardiac and pulmonary patients in that program receive the highest quality of rehab care.

American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)

  • 2018-2021 – Presented a silver-level Beacon Award of Excellence to the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).
    2016-2019 – Presented a silver-level Beacon Award of Excellence to SINI (now called STIC, or Surgical Trauma Intensive Care) Unit.
    The award recognizes caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards. Units that achieve this three-year, three level award with a designation meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcom Baldridge National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award and set the standard for optimal patient care.

Honors for our commitment to responsible building practices

  • Named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s “60 of the Greenest Hospitals in America.” Inclusion is based on Practice Greenhealth’s list of Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award honorees, Practice Greenhealth’s Circles of Excellence and participation in all six Healthier Hospital Initiative (HHI) challenges.
  • Received the Practice Greenhealth Emerald Award for excellence and innovation in health care sustainability and the Circle of Excellence in Green Building Award for demonstrating LEED and other Green Building Achievements.
  • Advocate Christ Medical Center’s East Tower awarded prestigious LEED® for HEALTHCARE GOLD Certification by the U. S. Green Building Council for sustainable design elements in the building. LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings.
  • Received Energy to Care Award from the American Society for Healthcare Engineering for reducing energy use by 10 percent or more.
