Conditions we treat

We treat a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including:

Diagnosis

Timing and accuracy are critical in the diagnosis of a heart condition, and better diagnoses lead to optimal treatments and patient care outcomes. That's why Advocate Trinity Hospital has invested in state-of-the-art cardiovascular diagnostic technology usually found only at much larger medical institutions. Many of our diagnostic tests are non-invasive, giving our board-certified cardiologists precise views of the heart and arteries without surgery; this reduces risk and patient discomfort.

Non-invasive diagnostic tests offered at Advocate Trinity Hospital include:

  • Helical CT scan: An X-ray beam spirals the body to reveal plaque build-up inside artery walls
  • Stress electrocardiogram test: Measures the heart's activity during physical activity
  • Echocardiogram: Gives insight into the heart's level of function (including size, strength and volume of blood pumped), using ultrasound
  • Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE): Produces clear images of the heart's structure using ultrasound
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG): Records electrical activity of the heart, and shows abnormal rhythms
  • Holter monitoring: Monitors electrical activity of the heart during normal activity, over 24 to 48 hours
  • Arterial/venous flow studies: Provide information about blood flow in the limbs
  • Tilt test study: Evaluates an individual's reaction to changes in blood pressure to determine the cause of fainting
